inquiring minds, yadda yadda.
Jan. 19th, 2008 12:44 amSo I have been pondering insignificant minutia, as I am occasionally wont to do, and found myself thinking about the TARDIS. More specifically, how odd it is that so much fan fiction takes place in parts of the Doctor's ship which (on the new series) we have never seen. (Presumably, the changes in the 'desktop theme' also apply to those bumpy white corridors from the Classic series.) Most fan fiction (my own included) rarely goes into detail when describing these settings, many of which are essential in so many stories - the kitchen, companion's bedrooms, bathrooms, the library, the study. Or, on the other hand, you have the Doctor's infamous bedroom, which experiences a wide variation in decor from fic to fic.
So I wanted to know how you guys imagine these places as you read and/or write. Is the kitchen small, poky, and low tech? Huge and empty? Is the furniture of the ship a wild hodgepodge of styles, or are things sleeker and more futuristic? Is Rose's bedroom really that pink? Does the Doctor have a bedroom at all, or does he simply putter around the ship all night? Is the library just a convenient spot for couch/desk sex, or does it actually contain books?
Burning questions, my friends. Get them while they're hot.
