this entry, like everything else on your flist, is about Star Trek.

Yeah, the movie ate my brain.

I promised my mother, filthy Trekkie that she is, that I'd take her to see the new movie on Mother's Day. I figured I'd probably like it all right - I'm just familiar enough with the original series to get the jokes, and I've had affection for the characters (McCoy) ever since I was a kid (a kid in love with McCoy). And I was willing to suffer through some too-shiny sci fi for my beloved mother, on that day of all days.

I was totally unprepared for the intense obsessive love this movie inspired in me. And just a love of McCoy. Though - obviously. Dude was hot. Really hot. I mean, stubble. Really. Like...wow.

Now I'm working my way through the original series on Netflix, watching some of the Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise episodes my mom has on DVD (she has the Captain's Log collection, which is rather interesting) and - horror of horrors - writing Spock/Uhura fic in my head. I am perfectly serious. I have all sorts of ideas, and while I am terrified of all-the-canon-I-will-never-know, these are not tame, polite ideas that will sit idly by while I watch all the movies - oh no. These ideas must be appeased OR THEY SHALL WRITE MY DOOM.

How could I resist this pairing? It's got a student/mentor dynamic and xenolinguistics and green-skinned roommates and I am a little ashamed of myself, but only a little, because GOD, the movie sold me on it so hard. (I brought my slash goggles, I swear I did. But they only wanted to see Kirk/McCoy. Speaking of which - MCCOY AND HIS STUBBLE.)

And I want to write Uhura so bad, I can't even tell you. IDEAS, people.

That sound you hear? That is my mother, many miles away, laughing her evil laugh.
