yes, I went to see The Princess and the Frog on opening night, and no, I am not ashamed.
OH MY SWEET CHEESE AND CRACKERS I LOVED THIS MOVIE.
So, so good. I was absolutely not expecting it to be so good. It was like being ten years old and gasping at all the pretty singing animals in The Lion King. Not, I should say, that this movie is as good as the phenomenal movies of that era of Disney - Lion King and Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin - but still, it recaptured some of that magic. The music was wonderful, and while I wouldn't exactly say the characterization was nuanced and complex I found myself very much attached to everyone, and occasionally quite pleasantly surprised by some of the choices the writers made. AND THERE WERE SINGING ANIMALS AND PRETTY COLORS AND IT MADE ME SO, SO HAPPY.
ALSO IT WAS ACTUALLY ROMANTIC. I HAVE NEVER FOUND A DISNEY MOVIE ROMANTIC IN MY ENTIRE DISNEY LIFE. (Note: in this particular conversation, Pixar does not count as Disney. Obviously, Pixar is far superior to anything, ever, and I often weep at the very thought of WALL-E/EVE, Grumpy Old Man from Up/HIs Awesome Wife, and Nemo's Dad/Dorie.)
Don't worry, Belle. I still love you best. BUT TIANA IS AWESOME AS WELL.
Yeah, now I'm going to have to go see it again.
