have a meme. it's fresh.
A question meme, stolen from many, many people. I found it oddly soothing. But then, I find American Idol soothing these days, so I'm clearly not at the top of my game, so to speak.
01. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up.
My dog, who is staring at me as if he can see the inside of my skull. The white beech trees outside my window. The dead light bulb in my reading lamp. My mother's dog, who is staring at my dog like she can see the inside of his skull. My feet.
02. How do you style your hair?
I used to just wash it and let it do whatever the crap it wanted to, but these days I'm brushing and blowdrying and putting in product. Insanity, and all to keep it from frizzing up around me like some sort of sentient hair creature who seeks to devour my face.
03. What are wearing now?
Jeans, glasses, a black t-shirt that says Keep Life Wild! in vaguely ridiculous white cartoon lettering. Which...has a hole in it, apparently. Wonder how long that's been there.
04. What's your ringtone?
The first thirty seconds or so of a Barenaked Ladies song called Raisins. Barenaked Ladies is the band of my soul.
05. What do you hear right now?
Me, singing my ringtone at the top of my voice. Because it's amazing.
06. What's your favorite guilty pleasure treat?
I do love a good french fry.
07. What are you thinking about right now?
Mysteriously holey shirts and french fries.
08. Write the first word that comes to mind.
Onomatopoetic.
09. Dog person or cat person?
My dog is judging me for this, but by nature I'm definitely a cat person. I like a pet that could demand the use of my head as a pillow one moment, and then try to gnaw on my nose the next. Dogs are just too predictably wonderful.
10. If you came across $2000 (or other currency) would you keep it or turn it in?
Where am I finding this money? In the street? In a store? In someone's wallet, snatched neatly from the back pocket of their trousers?
Today, I think I'd keep it. But that's only because I just shelled out $800 to fix my aunt's truck, and I'm feeling wretchedly poor at the moment.
11. What was the last thing you bought?
A new alternator and a new battery for my aunt's truck. I can't remember the last time I bought something other than food for myself - to which my t-shirt collection can attest, apparently.
12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
New Zealand again, I think. And it'd be nice to finally go to Great Britain, because it is just sad that I still haven't been.
13. Where do you see yourself in 5 minutes?
I'll probably still be finishing this meme. Sad, huh?
14. Last book you read?
I just finished The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis (recommended to me by
tricksterquinn, who should always be obeyed in these things), and have started my next Margaret Atwood, Cat's Eye. Yay books! I wish I had more time to read you.
15. What are you doing this weekend?
Ugh. I somehow got volunteered to teach a papercrafting class at a local studio tomorrow, which I am not at all qualified to do and will have to pull out some serious bullshit and charm to fake my way through. Sunday I'm working at my actual job, and hopefully will get to see Cumberbatch and Miller in Frankenstein that night. We'll see.
16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
The saxophone. I think I could rock it.
17. How are you?
Good. Surprisingly good, actually. My aunt and I spent the day driving around going to doctors' offices and pharmacies and such, and we actually had a pretty pleasant time of it, considering. She's doing so much better, and the weather was lovely.
18. What are you doing tomorrow?
Bullshitting, it seems. Hopefully I will be rewarded with money and Italian food.
19. What are you looking forward to the most?
Nothing in particular, at the moment. I'm very much looking at things one week at a time, right now. This week: survived. Next week: will be better.

Glad things are going better! (I initially typed that as "Gland things are going better!", which is now going to be my default conversation opener.) Best of luck with the papercrafting tomorrow.

Oooh you're reading Cat's Eye next? I love Margaret Atwood! I started reading Cat's Eye in English last year or the year before, but then I got caught up in some bullshit and then I never got around to finish it, but what I did read was very interesting.
One of my favourite books ever was written by Margaret Atwood; have you read The Edible Woman?

It took an unreasonable amount of time for me to finish this meme, and I also found it soothing. So I'm clearly right with you, at the not-top of my game.
