a meme of happiness and things and things which make one happy

I have now been tagged for this not once, not twice, but three times. This must mean that my reputation as a meme whore has spread throughout the land. Excellent. ;)

Ten things which have recently warmed the cockles of my frigid little heart. From [personal profile] principia_coh, [personal profile] dettiot, and [personal profile] jlrpuck. Yay!

1) In desperate need of new shoes, I stopped at Payless today and bought a shiny pair of blindingly pink flats. They are beautiful and brilliant and impossibly cheap and I love them to itty bitty vinyl bits.

2) I watched the 2003 Peter Pan directed by P.J. Hogan today. Look, I've read Barrie's play and Peter and Wendy and his novel for adults from which the character of Peter originated, The Little White Bird. I've memorized the Disney version (ick), seen the Mary Martin musical more times than I can fathom, watched Hook and Finding Neverland and EVERYTHING EVER to do with this stubborn ass immortal child - hell, I was in the freakin' play a few years ago - and only the 2003 film approaches the awesomeness that is Barrie's original creation. It makes me giggly and happy and in love with my thesis again.

3) I finally emotionally blackmailed my computer into playing the How I Met Your Mother episodes up on the CBS website. It brings me such joy; I cannot describe it. Also, I came to the disturbing realization that I totally ship Barney/Robin. How deranged is that? (I guess I've just been eating too many sandwiches lately. You know us college students and our...sandwiches.)

4) Children in Need spoilers. Need I say more?

5) I think Mountain Dew is gross, but catching  this on TV tonight made me laugh so hard I nearly did myself injury. (In other words, I nearly roundhouse kicked myself in the head.)

6) I got a letter in my mailbox today with a sticky note attached to the envelope that read, "I think this is your mail. Sorry." Guess what I found inside? The New Yorker article about the romantic comedy genre (particularly those of the classic screwball and more recent frat humor subgenres) that [personal profile] earlgreytea68 was awesome enough to send me and that, apparently, one of my neighbors has been safeguarding for me the last month or so. It was fascinating, and I hope to post some thoughts on it sometime in the near future.

7) This vid by [personal profile] rhoboat. Not only does it use one of my very favorite songs to excellent effect, it also highlights one of my favorite aspects of Who - the continuity, baby. (One man's ceaseless repetition is another man's commentary on the circular nature of time.)

8) Sleep. I had some; it was lovely.

9) Did you know that there was a deleted subplot from the 1939 Wizard of Oz in which Dorothy and the Scarecrow's Kansas counterpart had "an innocent romance"? Neither did I until yesterday. And as crazy as the idea is, I am strangely tickled by it.

10) Today, I received an e-mail from my professor which contained this link. Lolarious, I believe, is the proper term.
